Pimalai: The Crown Jewel of Koh Lanta, Thailand

HolidayRunway_Pimalai026

Although within an eyeshot of the famous bustle and hustle Phi Phi Island (which we also love :)), Koh Lanta features charmingly calm clear blue seas, miles long white sand beaches, and stunning scenery both on and offshore (Oh Yes Paradise with Solitude Found!). The island is a true beauty hiding within the sea of Andaman with a touch of pure nature. Koh Lanta is also fairly known among European tourists as the hub for midrange to luxury holiday escape and it doesn’t get more luxury than that of the island’s first and ultimate 5 star resort “Pimalai”. Tucked away surreptitiously into 100 acres of lush green tropical forest on the edge of the ocean at the stunning Kantiang beach (with direct access to their 900 meters long pristine beach! goal!). If you are looking for luxury escape to the best-kept secret island that you can simply relax, unwind, and lose yourself to the serenity of luscious greenery and endless Andaman water, Pimalai is the place to be. Wanna check in with us to our Pimalai One Bedroom Pool Villa? Right this way :)

Pimalai warmly greeted us upon our arrival at Krabi international as we were transferred to the private car they arranged for us. The journey is about 45 minutes to their private pier; available exclusively to in-house guests only. Once again we were warmly welcomed and given cold drinks & refreshment before boarding to their awaited beautiful and brand new white speedboat for 1 hour boat ride to Pimalai resort on Koh Lanta. Do not let the transfer intimidate you, as this is the only and the quickest way to reach to Koh Lanta (the island is totally worth the journey). If you were to arrive to the public pier the waiting time is most certainly much longer. Though the island transfer is available almost through out the day there is no strict timetable indicating when the next boat will arrive precisely. While this 1 hour and 45 minutes journey might be tiring for some, it is most definitely not tiring for us. We absolutely love the feeling of the sun on our faces, wind blowing through our hair, and cruising through Andaman Sea with ocean breeze in the air.  These are the signals that “Perfect Holiday” has just begun! Woo Hoo! Finally!

Upon our arrival at Pimalai we were quickly transferred to suites and pool villas lobby where Khun Frank De Lestapis (Resort General Manager) and his team gave us a heartfelt welcome. I guess what we heard is true that “Even incognito travel writers arriving on scruffy mopeds are treated like royalty by the welcoming crew of Pimalai”. The lemongrass-iced water is so refreshing and not an eyebrow will be raised if you ask for several refills :P Yep, I have tried for all of you! You’re welcome lol. We absolutely love the positive vibes here, the staffs are not only performing their duties but they are also showing their tender love and care for all guests through their services. The resort also exudes exclusivity and romance. It is built in harmony with the environment. I was told that the resort is not only actively protecting its pristine environmental but it is also an exotic home ground for eagles and monkeys. You can expect to see eagles soaring overheads and catching a glimpse of moneys playing in the trees. The lobby is elegantly designed with high celling, floor to celling windows, and fine touch of authentic Thai noble wooden houses with superb view of Andaman Sea. While first floor of the lobby features the lobby itself and the breakfast & fine dining outlet “Seven Seas”, the second floor features the main infinity pool sets in the naturally stylish mood and tone as it is surrounded by giant banyan trees yield their shades onto the pool’s surface creating an archetypical Thai vibe.

Our “Pimalai One Bedroom Pool Villa” is both gorgeous and spacious with 700 square meters. It is located on the hilltop (60 meters above sea level) with a backdrop of undistracted panorama oceanfront view and private infinity pool. Pimalai means “a little patch of heaven” in Ancient Sansakrit, living up to its name as it offers the perfect combination between luxury and nature. What I absolutely cherish about this place is how the villas are perfectly spaced out from each other with plenty room of privacy and how the only soundtrack playing is nothing else but birdsongs and the sound waves washing in and out of shore. The villa exhibits oriental allure and elegantly decorated in contemporary Thai style. The bedroom and the living room (equipped with kitchen and guest bathroom) are located on each end of the infinity pool. The living room features extra-comfy oversized day bed, furnished patio, large balcony, sun lounge, and romantic outdoor dining table for two.

As we made our way into the living room mama, papa, and baby monkeys who are waiting outside greeted us through the glass window. The monkeys are completely friendly and happy. Nonetheless, there is a strict policy for no feeding (and never forget to lock your doors as sometimes they will try to open them :D) as these monkeys do get plenty of food throughout the day and you do not want monkeys hanging in your villa 24×7. Which I do believe is a great balance, we do live together among great nature and each of us has our very own territory.

The bedroom compound is equally elegant, here you have your tropical dream bed with extra soft white king sized bed topped with the tone on tone beautifully and usefully hanging mosquito net. The en suite bathroom is also lofty with big bathtub for 2, separate shower and toilet, and built-in dressing table for 2. The grandstand view is most definitely during sunset as we have spectacular panoramic view of Koh Lanta’s coast line and seascape from the villa, take a dip into your private infinity pool and be a part of this water reflecting fiery sunset or enjoy this enchanting memory through a private massage with your loved one at your in-villa Spa Pavilion. If Tarzan and Jane go on retirement they would definitely be here and their hangout hotspot will definitely be the Pimalai Spa; the tropical dream paradise with lush greenery tiered spa garden. Create your very own luxury Tarzan and Jane Getaway; Get drunk in love and escape into solitude with this oceanfront jungle canopy.

Sincerely yours,

Jybby & Patrick
